The Northwestern wrestlers took part in the St. Mary’s Catholic Secondary School Wrestling Tournament in Kitchener on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. There were 350 wrestlers taking part with representation with teams from across Southwestern Ontario. Winning gold with four wins for Northwestern at 83 kg was Jamie Steckly. There were twenty three wrestlers in Jamie’s weight class. Silver medals went to Angela Steckly, Esther Bartlett, Chris Steep and Travis Blum. Bronze medals went to Reeve Houle and Carter McCue. There were nineteen wrestlers in Carter’s weight class and Carter had a record of four wins and only one defeat for the bronze medal. Brett Bromley placed fourth. Two Northwestern wrestlers, Tola Francis and Tyler Blum, with a combined five wins had to withdraw due to recurring injuries. Other wrestlers with wins for Northwestern included Maria Giannakopoulos, Neil Trainor, Bailey Read and Ethan Gardiner. Also wrestling well for Northwestern included India MacCormick, Harrison Noble, Bailey Satchell, Ezra Lee, and David McGrath. Congratulations Wrestlers!!
