World War One Education Day

Students from Mrs. Menhennet-Hillier and Ms. Ritsma’s history classes participated in a WWI education day at this living history site at Doon Heritage Crossroads in Kitchener.  Schools from Woodstock and Kitchener also participated in this interactive event which was hosted  by a Great War re-enactor group called, History Matters. Students participated in workshops that were guided by the museum’s interpretive staff on such topics as:  the homefront, the role of nursing sisters, lancing drills, pacifism, popular music, battle school, and censorship.

This year the event took place over two days and it is expected that it will be expanded to three days, due to the popularity of the programme.

Thanks for a terrific day of learning for both students and teachers!
