Senior HP Badminton Championships!

Our Senior Badminton team had a great day at the Senior Huron Perth Badminton Championships!

In their first year on the team, Joanne Marshall (girls singles) and Dan McRoberts and Jordyn Riehl (mixed doubles) played their best yet on the court, showing a dramatic improvement over the last month.

Jenn Murray and Kasey Sharp also played some of their best badminton to date. Winning their first match against Listowel 21-19, 21-12, they lost a tight match to St.Anne’s, won their next match against Goderich but were knocked out of tournament after taking South Huron to a close third deciding game.

Our men’s double team, Jordan Pepper and Noah Redfern, after 6 matches, placed 3rd overall of 18 teams. They won matches against Goderich B, St. Anne’s, Goderich A, and an exciting 3 game match against St. Mary’s (21-16, 18-21, 21-8) to clinch a WOSSAA berth.

Matt Vandewiel dominated the court in senior boys singles, he went undefeated winning five straight matches against Goderich, St. Anne’s, Central A, Central B and then clinched his WOSSAA top ranking from Huron Perth with a gold medal win. It’s Matt’s second Huron Perth championship gold medal win!

Congratulations to all the senior players, it was a great team effort, which placed them third overall in points for the team total!

Matt, Noah and Jordan are off to WOSSAA next Thursday, AND good luck to the junior team,16 junior players headed to the Huron Perth playoffs next Wednesday!
