OYAP – Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program helps high school students transition into an apprenticeship in any one of the over 140 trades offered in Ontario.  OYAP students are registered with the program in co-op if they are in an apprentice-able trade.  15 students from Northwestern, including the students in this photo, did so well at their co-op placements their employers wanted to sign them as apprentices.  All of these students have signed Registered Training Agreements, and will leave Northwestern as an apprentice.  The students will also get to count all of the hours worked in their co-op placement towards their apprenticeship, and in many cases can complete their apprenticeship and be a journey person in their early 20’s.  These students are definitely ahead of the game!
