The Northwestern Boys Hockey team travelled to Listowel today, to play their 3rd last game of the regular season, and their first of 2014.
The Huskies went into the game sitting in 4th place in Huron Perth.
The boys showed some rust early on, giving up two early goals to Listowel within the first 6 minutes of the game. However the momentum shifted early in the 2nd, as the Huskies went on the powerplay and managed to put some offensive pressure on Listowel. Wes Wickenheiser finished off a breakaway with a smooth deque midway through the 2nd period to cut Listowel’s lead to 1.
Goalie Ryan Primeau made a number of big saves near the end of the period to keep the Huskies in the game heading to the third period.
Northwestern came out determined in the final frame, carrying the majority of play throughout the period. Dalton Carde scored a powerplay goal 5 minutes into the period to tie things up, and Wickenheiser scored his 2nd of the game, and the game winner on the powerplay with 2 minutes remaining. Brandon Taylor picked up the assist on a nice give and go play. Defencemen Zach Ernest, and Derek VanDenTempel both logged big minutes and played solid in their own end.
The win moves the Huskies to 4-2-2 for the season. Their next action is Friday, Jan. 17th, when they travel to Clinton to take on Central Huron.
