Northwestern Students Sign Apprenticeships Through OYAP

On Tuesday April 9th, 15 students from Avon Maitland District School Board and Huron Perth Catholic District School Board participating in an Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program Group Signing event at the Queens Inn in Stratford. 4 of those 15 budding apprentices are from Northwestern.
Dylan Francis signed as a General Carpenter with Contract Framing Group.

Zach Clifton signed as a General Machinist with Advantage Machine & Tool.

Noah Heinbuch signed as a Plumber with Mogk Plumbing.

Brett Maguire signed as a Sheet Metal Worker with Harrison Heating and Cooling.

By signing apprenticeships through OYAP, these young trades people are able to put all hours they have accumulated during their co-op placements towards their apprenticeships.  They also get the benefit of participating in a group signing day, when experts on apprenticeships are available to go through the in’s and out’s of signing up.
These 4 gentlemen, along with the other students signed yesterday have a big head start on becoming a journey person in their respective trades, with many OYAP participants earning their tickets by their early 20’s.
The signing of these 4 students bring the total number of apprentices signed from Northwestern at 10 this school year.  The Northwestern co-op department projects there may be up to 10 more that may get signed before the end of June.
