Our Boys Hockey team travelled to Exeter on Monday to open their 2016/17 season against last years Huron Perth finalist South Huron playing to a 0-0 tie. This was the boys first game together as a group, and it showed in the first period. Despite some growing pains the effort level and intensity was there and neither team had any great scoring opportunities.
The 2nd period saw the Huskies begin to play together much more, and the boys dominated play for much of the period. The line of Mitch McKay, Jacob Rauser and Riley Sykes had several scoring chances but could not beat the South Huron netminder.
The 3rd period saw much of the same. A number of scoring opportunities for Northwestern, but the boys could just not get the puck across the goal line. Zach Otto and Carson Dunseith both had excellent opportunities, but no puck luck. Goalie Owen Hahn was not tested often, but made a number of solid saves when he had to posting the shut out.
Despite the lack of finish, a strong defensive and overall team effort shows signs of promise for the Huskies. Their next action is Nov. 29th at 10am when they host F.E. Madill at Allman Arena.
